4 Simple Moves to Help Improve Your Core Strength and Stability

Having core strength is important for many reasons. Your core area includes your abdominal and back muscles. Strengthening these muscles can help you with stability and balance which can help prevent falls. It can also help relieve back pain and improve posture. Having a strong core can make it easier for you to play sports or engage in other physical activities like riding your bike or participating in a fitness class. Finally, core strength is important because it can help keep you looking fit and trim.

Here are 4 simple moves you can try at home, no equipment needed!

Planks

Planks are one of the best ways to keep your core strong and sturdy. You can do this on your forearms, or in a pushup position. Start by holding the pose at least 30 seconds, and work your way into longer holds as you become stronger.

Burpees

This gives you a full core workout, plus cardio. Start by standing straight, jump up with your arms above your head, and follow by jumping down into a pushup position, placing your hands on the ground first and then kicking your legs back to achieve the pushup position. Repeat this move.

Bridge

Start by laying on your back with your legs bents at the knees, heels together, and arms down with palms flat on the ground. Raise your hips off the ground so that they are aligned with your knees, and hold this position while engaging your core. Make sure not to arch your back in either direction while doing this move. Repeat.

Twister

Sitting in a squat position with your knees together, bring your hands into a prayer pose in front of your chest. Keep your seated squat position, twist your core to the right side, placing your left elbow outside your right knee. Hold this pose, twist back to the center, and repeat the move on the other side. Try 20 reps.
