You Only Need These Five Things to Create the Perfect Home Gym

So, you’re ready to kick off your new year resolutions early and stay fit during the holidays, but you’re not quite ready to get back into the gym. Sound familiar? If this sounds like your train of thought, we have just the solution for you… a home gym! If you have a space in your home where you can spread out for a workout, that’s all you need! This could be in your home office, your guest room, an open corner in your living room, the basement or even the garage.

There are plenty of exercises you can do right at home with absolutely no equipment needed, like lunges and jumping jacks. However, if you want to step your game up and create a true home gym, you’ll only need these 5 things to make it work:

Exercise Mat

A must have for any home gym! This is great for stretching, doing a core workout, practicing yoga, plyometrics, or busting out some pushups. An exercise mat is also great because they help keep your floors clean and free from scratches, rips or scuffs that may appear during your workout.

Resistance Bands

These are great because they are versatile and take up hardly any space! A set of resistance bands is the perfect addition to your home gym because they can be used almost as a replacement for weights, ranging from light resistance to heavy resistance. You can use them for bicep curls, squats, and more!

Kettlebell

If you want to add some weight into your routine, look no further than the kettlebell. You can choose your weight according to your level or experience, and get swinging! Working out with a kettlebell can tone your body and build muscle, whether you're swinging it, getting in some deadlifts, or lifting it overhead, you’re sure to get a great workout in.

Jump Rope

A jump rope is another great addition to your home gym because it packs a big workout and takes up very little space. Jumping rope is a killer cardio workout while also allowing you to improve your coordination, balance, and stamina.

Bench

The final piece of equipment you need to complete your home gym is a workout bench. While this may take up the most room, this versatile tool can really improve your workouts. From dips, to assisted push ups, single leg split squats, step ups, and resistance band work, you’re sure to get a ton or use out of it.

Exercise is an important part of overall health. While exercising, you’ll notice that your sleep habits may improve, your mind will have greater clarity, your joints and muscles will become stronger and more flexible, and you will look and feel younger. Now is the time to start a regular exercise program and begin your journey to better health.
