5 Healthy Resolutions to Stick to This Year

Let’s make 2018 our best year yet! For the most part, your health can be controlled by your lifestyle choices. Here are 5 ways to live a longer, healthier life; all by taking matters into your own hands and committing to your 2018 healthy resolutions.

  1. Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet
Heart-healthy foods are great because they can help with circulation, promote a healthy blood flow, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, can help clear blockage and blood clots, and help with inflammation. You can take control of becoming a healthier, more energetic and active version of yourself by watching what you eat. Some heart-healthy foods include beans, lentils, fish, and leafy greens, just to name a few options.
  2. Exercise Regularly
Exercise can be intimidating – but committing to adding it into your weekly routine can change your life for the better. Not only can regular exercise help with weight loss and fitness goals, but it can also keep your heart and brain strong and working properly. Stop with the excuses - even taking a short 25-minute brisk walk a day can make all the difference.
  3. Get More Sleep
Getting a good night of sleep regularly is important for overall health and well-being, yet so many people struggle to keep a healthy sleep schedule. A few things you can do to get a better night’s sleep include creating a sleep schedule and sticking to it daily, cutting off screen time early, creating a relaxing environment by reading before bed, drinking tea, or listening to soothing music, exercising regularly, and eating a healthy, well-rounded diet low in added sugar.
  4. Stress Less
Stress is caused by a change in your environment, affecting you either mentally, emotionally or physically. This can include changes in a relationship, a heavy load at work, physical ailments from exercise, moving to a new city and more. A few things you can do to relieve stress naturally include drinking tea, having lavender in your home, taking vitamins specifically designed to help relieve stress like melatonin and magnesium, taking a mediation or yoga class, and exercising regularly.
  5. Drink More Water
Water plays a key role in keeping the circulatory, respiratory and nervous systems healthy and running smoothly. Drinking water can help you lose weight. It boosts your metabolism and can help keep your digestive system working properly. It can also help flush out toxins in the body and help keep your skin clear and healthy. Water can keep your body temperature regulated, keep you hydrated, and help keep your pH balance in check. Water also has the power to help with chronic pain like rheumatoid arthritis, backaches and osteoporosis.

That doesn’t sound too bad, does it? This year, focusing on your health can be a priority, and it doesn’t have to be hard. Just remember to watch what you eat, drink plenty of water, exercise often and always get a good night’s sleep. You can do this!
