Understanding the Paleo Diet

The idea behind the Paleo diet is to go back to our roots and eat primal - only consuming foods that were available and eaten by humans during the Paleolithic era, also known as the Stone Age. This is the time before humans had the luxury of agriculture and being able to grow their own food or farm. Instead, people relied on hunting and gathering for food.

The main goal of this diet is to eliminate processed foods, refined sugar, dairy, legumes, and grains in order to achieve weight loss and help prevent certain diseases like obesity, diabetes and heart disease. On the paleo diet, you’ll be eating plenty of lean meat, fish, poultry, fruits and vegetables. You’ll also be consuming more fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, unsaturated fat, and more vitamins and minerals.

Like all diets, there are both pros and cons. Before starting the paleo diet, or any other diet, do your research and always consult your doctor first. Not all diets are created equal and what works for someone else may not work for you. If your goal is to lose weight, you should add exercise into your daily routine along with eating a healthy, well-rounded diet.
